Short answers on how to write, cite, check and export in WriteOrbit.
Getting started
- New document
- Start blank, pick a template (literature review, research proposal or essay), or open a Word file. Its formatting, comments and tracked changes come with it.
- Saving
- Your work saves as you type. File › Version history shows earlier versions. You can name a version or restore it.
- Sharing
- Click Share to invite people by email as editors, commenters or viewers, or to turn on a link.
Writing with AI
- Autocomplete
- Turn it on in the toolbar. Pause at the end of a paragraph and a grey suggestion appears, with its sources. Tab accepts, Refine asks again, Conclude writes a closing sentence and the next heading.
- AI suggest and Cite
- The small bar at the cursor writes from that exact spot, or opens citation search.
- Autocomplete sources
- Use the arrow next to Autocomplete to choose where suggestions come from: web or Library papers, one Library folder, publication years, citation counts and preprints.
- Write with AI
- Open it from the side rail or the AI menu. Give a topic and choose papers, your Library or both. It drafts the document section by section with citations, and you accept each part.
- A paragraph
- Hover over a paragraph and click ✦ to edit it with AI, find citations for it, ask about it, review it or comment.
Citations and references
- Cite
- Type @ or use Cite in the toolbar, then search your Library and published papers. WriteOrbit builds the reference list under References.
- Style
- Pick a style in the status bar (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, AMA, ACS, IEEE, Vancouver and more). Every citation and reference updates. See all styles
- A citation
- Click a citation to open the paper, save it to your Library, switch to Author (Year) or edit it.
Library, Find papers and AI Chat
- Library
- Upload PDFs and sort them into collections. Cite them, or click Ask to chat about one.
- Find papers
- Search 250M+ scholarly works and filter by year, citation count and open access. Cite a paper in your document or save it to your Library.
- AI Chat
- Answers cite real papers. Choose Web, Library or Document as sources, and add context with @.
Review
- Checks
- Run Claim check, peer review, source quality, proofread or tone on the whole document or on a selection.
- Changes
- Proofread and Claim check fixes can appear as tracked changes. Accept or reject them one at a time or all at once.
- Comments
- Select text and add a comment (Ctrl+Alt+M). Reply to, resolve or delete comments in the Comments panel.
Export
- Word
- File › Download Word saves a .docx with headings, footnotes, comments, tracked changes, equations, tables and images.
- File › Download PDF. Set the page size, margins, running head and page numbers in File › Page setup.
- LaTeX
